Nakuru deputy county commissioner Catherine Njoroge has praised First Lady Margaret Kenyatta for launching the Beyond Zero campaign in the country.
Speaking on Tuesday during World Aids Day celebrations held at the Nyayo Gardens in Nakuru, Njoroge stated that most maternal deaths had reduced significantly across the country owing to the initiative and called upon the First Lady to keep continue with the initiative.
"We have seen a general decline in the mortality rate of both mothers and infants during maternity and all that is because the First Lady launched an initiative countrywide to help ease the situation. We are greatly indebted to her and we urge her to continue doing the same," she said.
She added that the county government was committed to ensuring a HIV/Aids free county and called upon locals to visit health centers to know their status to avoid spreading of the disease.
She also warned locals against discriminating those infected with the virus, saying it is inhuman.
The First Lady launched the Beyond Zero campaign in January 2014 to control HIV and to reduce maternal and child mortality.
