Five people were arrested on Sunday in Mbiuni, Mwala-Matungulu sub county border following a crackdown on illicit brew by chiefs and sub chiefs in the area.
Confirming the arrests, Mulaani sub location, sub chief Thomas Kimuya said that the operation was conducted by chiefs and sub chiefs on the border of Matungulu and Mwala sub counties after a tip off from residents.
Kimuya disclosed that 50 litres of Karubu (local brew) and five litres of Chang'aa were impounded during the operation.
He said the illicit brew has been spoiling the youth and the fight against illicit brew won't stop until they destroy all brewing dens in the area and apprehend those involved in the business.
The chief lauded the residents for their cooperation in the fight against illicit brews by providing information to the authorities.
"Illicit brew has been destroying our youth but thanks to the cooperation of the residents the fight against illicit brew doing good", said Kimuya.
