A food programme in Kikuyu dubbed "feed the starving" that was started by Kikuyu MCA Binary Wainaina and Equip Ministries International on Wednesday benefited over 300 families.
Speaking at the Kikuyu CDF grounds where the event took place, Wainaina said the programme was started six months ago with an aim of reaching out to needy families.
He said the programme reaches out to the families every month and they have so far fed over 2,000 families in the area.
"This programme is not only for Kikuyu residents but it will benefit the entire region as the Equip Ministries is planning with other sub county leaders to take the programme to the people. I urge leaders to join forces with non-governmental organisations to bring progress to their people," he said.
The director of EMI David Gitonga speaking during the event said the programme is funded majorly by the ministry from the USA.
They also intend to move to other counties to support needy families across the country.
