The Kenya Private Schools Association Kiambu county branch secretary Mrs. Mary Wanjiru Kirika is adamant that the form one selection this year should be based on merits and equality.

Kirika said that the system has been discriminating and closing out the best pupils from the private schools and instead sending them to ‘small schools’ across the country.

Speaking to the press from her office in Thika town on Wednesday, Kirika said that last year’s selection was unfair as there were cases of even boys being called to girls school, a clear indication that the ministry was not ready for the exercise.

The KPSA secretary said that she has laid all her trust on the new education CS Fred Matiang’i after the meeting the CS had with the education stakeholders on Tuesday which she termed as successful.

Madam Kirika who owns a private school in Thika town added that the exercise demoralizes the youngsters. She further told the press that unless there are immediate changes on the exercise the members of public, pupils and parents will eventually lose their confidence in the Ministry’s selection criteria.

She on the same note said that it is sad that private schools have always been discriminated on yet the good performances experienced by the schools is out of their efforts and the owners of the school have put their money in the schools for the best results.
