Mataara water project chairman Anthony Gachunga has promised to increase household water connections to ensure high accessibility of clean water by residents.

Speaking in a public baraza in Mataara shopping centre on Sunday, Gachunga said they expect to increase water connections from 62,000 units to 100,000 units this year and that the number of clients is also expected to rise from 2,300 to 5,000 households

Gachunga revealed that in the year 2016 the company will work to ensure at least 100,000 units of water connections are achieved and that more residents have access to water to ensure proper sanitation and health.

Gachunga pointed out that among other issues that enabled the project to have a wider access of water distribution was efficiency such as rapid response to cases of water leakage and highly motivated and disciplined staff.

"In 2015 we were able to increase water units from 40,000 to 62,000 which we have until now. These were a concerted effort of our staff, residents and the government. We have well-disciplined residents who often report cases of leakage that enabled us to have efficiency in our work," he said.

He revealed that the project workers would be given incentives in order to boost their morale and ensure good services in the year 2016.

He announced that the company will put a mega dam to supply residents with water for irrigation especially in harsh weather seasons where farmers experience dryness.
