Ruiru MP Esther Gathogo has urged the Kiambu county government to put in place proper mechanisms that will boost the education sector.

Speaking when he issued bursary cheques to beneficiaries at Uhuru Kenyatta secondary school in Kahawa Sukari Ward,  Ruiru on Friday, Gathogo said education sector will improve if proper mechanisms are put in place.

The MP said that the county has the best performing schools and that the county government needs to support education programmes. She noted that though education unit is the function of the national government, county governments can supplement the programmes.

Gathogo stated that education remains a key platform for realisation of development and elimination of poverty.

“County governments should supplement and support education programmes being put in place by the national government so as to improve the sector for realization of development,” she said.

She called for increased of bursary funds to help many needy but bright students saying that bursaries have helped thousands of needy students advance their education. 

“The bursary allocation should be increased so that we can have many needy but bright students access education,” she added.

The MP pledged to support education programmes in the constituency.
