Gatundu North children’s officer Mary Muthoni has lauded Gatundu children’s home rescue center in Gatundu for its outstanding charity work.

Speaking from her office on Tuesday, Muthoni said the home that has over 200 street children was the only center in the region which was willing to take in needy children whenever requested.

"My department entirely depends on the institution whenever faced with emergencies and in need of temporary housing for deserving children," she said.

"Although the rescue center lacks adequate funding due to the lack of reliable donors, it has never turned down my office’s request to offer temporary housing to rescued children," she added.

Muthoni argued that the only other similar facility in the entire county is located in Githobokoni ward.

"Given that am the only children’s officer serving both Gatundu North and south sub-counties, it is strategic and cost-saving to house the children at the center which between the two constituencies," she noted.

Muthoni urged well-wishers to render assistance to the home in a bid to ensure its sustainability since it has lots of responsibilities.

In December 2015, the center reportedly rehabilitated more than 24 children rescued from Kamwangi and other surrounding town’s streets.
