The residents of Gatundu North sub county within Kiambu county have been urged to embrace the services offered by the Kenya National Hospital Insurance Fund as a way of helping them pay their medical bills in case of illnesses.
Speaking from Igegania District Hospital on 10th November 2015, Jonathan Muiruri who is the sub county deputy health and medical officer noted that many of the area residents are not yet registered with NHIF.
He appealed to the residents to secure NHIF cards for better health service care delivery whenever they are admitted in hospitals.
"It has come to my attention that many residents in this area have not applied for NHIF cards in the case of illness emergencies. You cannot afford to remain in hospital in the name of not paying the hospital bills yet NHIF is available and is also affordable," he said.
"NHIF charges are low making them affordable to the common mwananchi and thus everyone should apply," he noted.
Muiruri also said that he will ensure better and quicker health care provision to all.
He added that a healthy nation helps to foster the social, political and economic development of a nation.
