Residents from Gesima ward in Nyamira County have urged the Kenya Tea Development Agency to give them priority in employment during the construction of the proposed tea factory at Matuna satellite.
Speaking to this writer on Sunday at Matunua, area residents urged the management under the leadership of Nyasiongo Tea Factory to give them priority during selection of workers for the construction of the factory .
Led by Philip Obiria, one of the members who gave out his land for the construction said the community had offered its land for the construction of tea factory and deserved to derive most benefit from it.
“As residents of Gesima and Matunua in particular, we urge the management to give us a bigger share of workers during the construction and when the factory becomes operational,” said Obiria
He added that there were many young people in the area who could be absorbed by the factory after the construction and urged youths to equp themselves with more skills which will give them a cmpetitive edge over their peers.
Atera Jackson Rikingoina Buying Center chairman echoed Obiria’s remarks saying the factory will benefit them not only in selling of tea leaves but also business will expand in the area.
