Head teachers from Gesima zone have piled pressure on area education officer Mr Robert Obiria to quit over what they termed as a plot to transfer some of them arbitrarily.
They also claimed the officer was scheming to subject a number of teachers to arbitrary transfers without replacements.
Led by Gesima Kenya Primary Schools Head Teachers Association (Kepsha) chairman Mr Charles Bosire, the head teachers threatened to write to the Ministry of Education to demand immediate removal of the officer, arguing that he was an impediment to progressive education in the region.
They also demanded that the officer justifies transfer of at least 15 teachers from the region without replacing them as stipulated in the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) regulations.
“This man (Obiria) has been an impediment to progressive education in this zone. He not only plots for our transfers but also teachers who he doesn’t even replace as per the TSC regulations and he has already done that to at least 15 teachers. We will write to the Ministry of Education to remove him from this region or we use other means to get rid of him,” he said.
According to them, the officer was using his powers wrongly by revenging on teachers who he allegedly had personal grudges with, by transferring to distant places.
They also demanded that his conduct be investigated by the ministry and action be taken against him if found guilty.
“He is out to revenge on teachers he differs with. In fact, a number of our members have been his victims by getting transfers to distant places as part of his revenge mission,” added Mr Charles Getuno of Nyakongo Primary School.
However, Obiria who spoke to this writer on phone denied the claims and referred to the head teachers as insensitive on matters administration.
“I have never had grudges with anybody as they claim. I am simply doing my job because we want to improve the quality of education in our locality and those accusing me are insensitive. I don’t remember any incident where we transferred teachers without replacement and if there is any, the ministry is in the process of doing replacements,” he said.
