Thika chiefs and their assistants have been lauded for their continued efforts in the fight against illicit brews and drugs in the area.
According to Thika sub county commissioner Jeremiah Gicheru, more than 10,000 liters of illicit brews have been nabbed in last three months and over 1,000 brewers arrested and arraigned in court.
Speaking in Thika town over the weekend, the DCC said that the police the have in custody more than 80 bhang peddlers who are still under investigations, while others have already been arraigned in court and charged with possessing illegal drugs.
Gicheru said that members of the public have made it easy for the administrators and police to tame the heinous acts by the culprits.
He vowed not to relent in the fight against alcoholism and drug abuse in Thika and called for support from other leaders.
"We will not give up in this fight," he said.
Gicheru warned the public that during this festive season, his office would not tolerate irresponsible alcohol consumption, adding that he would liaise with the police to re-introduce Alco-blow in order to seize drunk drivers.
