Residents of Githima estate in Gatuanyaga ward, Thika sub county have appealed to the Kiambu government to fulfill its promise of supplying them with clean tap water.
According to residents they have no supply of tap water and that despite the government promising to ensure that they are supplied nothing has happened.
The resident’s claim that they only depend on water supplied by vendors which they say sometimes cannot be trusted.
Ms. Mburu who owns a food kiosk in the estate said that many residents depend on water from vendors. She noted that cases of water borne diseases are often reported as is is not clean tap water.
Sylivia Mbevi, a salon operators says that access to clean water is the serious problem facing many residents.
She noted that water is hard to come by adding that vendors take the advantage of the scarce commodity to charge exorbitantly.
“We are forced to buy water at higher prices when our government can easily connect us to tap water and end our tribulations,” She said.
According to Ms. Mbevi, a 20 liter jerrican of water goes for Kshs. 40 which she says is exorbitant compared to Kshs. 15 in other areas in the county.
The residents said that the only way to address water challenges is for the county government to sink boreholes and also ensure tap supply.
They want their area Member of Parliament Alice Nga'ng'a to address the matter and push the Kiambu government to have them supplied with clean tap water.
