Dairy farmers and business people in Githunguri, Kiambu county have appealed to the Kiambu government to renovate and repair roads in the area.

The business people are complaining over poor roads which they say has inconvenienced their daily activities.

The business people who spoke to this Hivisasa writer on Saturday said that the Kiambu-Githunguri road, Githunguri-Kimende road and the Githunguri- Ruiru road are in a pathetic state.

The residents who are mainly dairy farmers said that their produce takes too long to reach the market as a result of the poor roads. They noted that repair on the roads which has many potholes had started but stopped mid-way.

“We were told that the county government was going to tarmac, expand and renovate these roads but we are not seeing any works going on,” said Jane Kihara, a dairy farmer in Githunguri.

The residents want their area Member of Parliament Mr Njoroge Baiya to intervene on the matter and push for the repair of the roads.

“Our Member of Parliament has promised as several times that he is pushing for road repairs in this area but we are not seeing anything happen,” said Joshua Irungu, a boda boda operator in the area.

Mr. Irungu said that the area will register economic development if roads are repaired.

Speaking at the Thika prisons on Wednesday last week, Kiambu governor William Kabogo said that the county government was keen to renovate all roads.

Kabogo said that enough funds have been allocated to repair and renovate all infrastructures in the county.
