Cooking gas vendors in Gituamba ward have been urged to seek licenses from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) in an attempt to eliminate rogue suppliers.
Speaking at Gituamba Township on Wednesday while monitoring the activities done by sellers in the area, the area ERC officer, Jackline Muthoni noted that some gas vendors are selling substandard products.
Muthoni who is also a member of Kariri Water Project committee noted that the area had few vendors as compared to developed towns like Thika.
She advised the area residents to use gas cylinders in cooking compared to other fuels saying it is cheaper that using cooking stoves, convenient and easy to operate.
"I was authorised to come and monitor the activities carried out by gas cylinder sellers in Gituamba and its constituents. From the look of things, many do not have the commission’s license and are operating even without the county government licenses. The ERC license will cost one Sh3,500 a year and it's mandatory," she said.
She noted that the regulatory body would take action against those who would be operating without licenses from January citing that many vendors from the area had no information about the license.
"Many sellers had no information of such a license. We have, however, agreed that they will apply for the licenses before January next year to avoid closure of their businesses," she said.
