Residents of Riabai town in Kiambu constituency have appealed to the county government to supply them with clean tap water.

The residents lamented that they are not connected to tap water despite the county promising to supply them with the commodity.

Sharon Kariuki, a resident said they rely on vendors for their supplies.

“Our government should do something and connect us to clean tap water because we are facing challenges of accessing the commodity,” she said.

She added that water vendors have taken the advantage of the shortage to charge them highly.

Samuel Koima, a restaurant owner in Riabai said access to water is the serious challenge facing the people.

“For years we have been appealing for water but no one has ever connected us,” he said.

The residents appealed to their leaders led by area MP Jude Njomo to intervene and address the matter.

The residents also asked the government to sink boreholes to enable them access water.

On Thursday when he toured the area, Kiambu Governor William Kabogo assured residents of his commitment to promote development.

The governor said various development projects including road expansion are being initiated in the county.
