President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday afternoon commissioned more than 30 armored vehicles to the police service. The move was aimed at helping the police fight terrorism in the country.

Happening at the GSU headquarters in Ruaraka, the president was accompanied by the inspector general, Joseph Boinnet, CID boss, Ndegwa Muhoro, and CS, Joseph Nkaissery. The GSU commandant, Stephen Chelimo was among those who received the president.

The vehicles are set to be taken to places with a lot of insecurity incidents to boost security. Some of these places are Lamu, Mombasa, Garissa and Mandera. This comes after a teacher was killed in Mandera’s bus where he opposed the Al-Shabaab from separating Christians from Muslims.

Some police officers were killed on their way back to duty in Lamu last month. It is said that the vehicle the police were travelling in hit a bomb planted by the Al-Shabaab group believed to be living in Boni Forest. The officers were on a mission to secure Boni Forest from Al-Shabaab, who are using it as their habitat.
