Jubilee government has been challenged to consider building homes for old aged people in all the 290 constituencies.

Speaking at his Gachuba backyard on Monday, aspiring Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose argued that the move will drastically reduce cases of negligence and assaults targeting the aged people.

“Time has come for our old aged people to be taken seriously. It’s really sad that they are being ignored completely making them vulnerable to negligence by some of their kin and assaults from non-caring citizens,” he said.

He urged MPs to us CDF kitty for construction of the homes and challenged the national government to take charge in catering for their needs and supporting employees who will be mandated to take care of them.

“My suggestion is attainable. MPs should be persuaded to set up these structures while the government should take charge by catering for their social needs. It should also recruit personnel who will be mandated to take care of them,” he added.

Mose alleged that the kitty meant for the old aged people had been misused by greedy government official insisting that it was going to wrong beneficiaries.

“It’s not necessary that the MPs build the structures. The government can still do that because it has jurisdiction to take care of them (old aged). The old aged kitty which is being run by the government is not going to the rightful beneficiaries. By building the homes, the government will pump the resources directly to them without going through many channels,” Mose added.

According to him, the homes should accommodate aged people who have attained 80 years and above who come from impoverished backgrounds.
