Gatundu Children’s home manager Gichuhi Kimani has challenged both the National and County Governments to set aside funds for homeless children.

Speaking from the children’s home on Thursday, Kimani asked the two levels of Government to provide support for poor and homeless children in the country.

"Both levels of governments have failed to show concern over the overwhelmingly escalating number of orphan children who are left in despair after the death of their parents," he lamented.

He expressed regret that Kenyans engaged in the care of such vulnerable children depend mainly on foreign aid, noting that it reflected citizens’ lack of empathy on issues affecting ‘our own’ children.

Kimani hailed Gatundu University students association GUSU for their compassionate programme during the welcome of New Year saying that it makes the less fortunate feel part of the society.

He challenged government departments under the new dispensation to emulate the GUSU students on reaching out to the less fortunate within the sub-county.

The Corporate Social Responsibility dubbed as ‘Chapoo for the unfortunate’ was chaired by GUSU secretary Samuel Kabui one day before New Year.

Kimani residents to always remember the needy in their hearts as well as plans so as to narrow the widening gap between the rich and the poor.

"Don’t remember the unfortunate only during the Christmas Eve. Note that they always require your support," he added.
