Governors from Nyanza region have been urged to allocate more funds for the health sector this financial year.

Politician Dr Hezron McObewa said counties should increase funding for the development of the health sector to boost services to citizens.

He asked Cyprian Awiti (Homa Bay), Cornel Rasanga (Siaya), Obado Okoth (Migori), James Ongwae (Kisii), Jack Ranguma (Kisumu) and John Nyagarama (Nyamira) to give priority to the health sector.

Speaking in Kisumu town Monday, McObewa told county governments to partner with the private sector to provide quality healthcare.

He said counties need to focus more on the health of women and children as they are the most vulnerable members of society.

The politician said better access to maternal health care will reduce pregnancy related deaths that occur annually and help reduce child mortality rates.

McObewa who is eyeing for Kisumu gubernatorial seat said proper health policies will ensure the eradication and improved medical services of diseases such as HIV/Aids by 2030.

He challenged women leaders to join him in advocating for women and defending issues that are important to women and their families.

McObewa said health and education are key concerns for growth and development in any society.

“Quality healthcare and education is key to poverty eradication and achievement of Vision 2030,” he said.

He has also asked the national government to increase funds allocated to the ministry for adequate health provisions.

“I also want to appeal to the national government to ensure public health facilities are well equipped and staffed to handle all general medical and surgical,” he said.
