The future of agriculture in Nakuru County is in greenhouse farming.

The National Irrigation Board western region coordinator Daniel Masakhwe said water scarcity and harsh weather conditions in the county has left farmers with greenhouse farming as the only option.

Masakhwe said the region is at the risk of being food insecure if farmers continue relying on rain fed agriculture.

"Nakuru County has a water shortage and therefore farmers can no longer continue relying on rain fed agriculture, the weather that is unpredictable is forcing them to embrace green house farming,"said Masakhwe.

"Green house farming will ensure that Nakuru is a food secure county because people will have food all the time,"he added.
