Top leaders from Kitutu Masaba now want two gubernatorial front runners from the region to hold dialogue and front only one to increase chances of winning the Nyamira seat in 2017 polls.
The two; Charles Mochama and Walter Nyambati are said to command a sizable number of electorates, a reason why Masaba leaders want them to hold dialogue to avoid splitting of votes from the vote rich constituency.
Led by former Kisii Mayor Alloys Moseti, the leaders vowed to work around the clock to seal unity between the two.
“As Masaba residents, we are keen to win the gubernatorial race but that cannot happen if we produce two strong aspirants. They are likely to split our votes and that will be catastrophic. I plead to Nyambati and Mochama to allow dialogue take centre stage. That is the only way out and we must ensure that happens,” he said in his Kemera backyard on Monday.
His sentiments were shared with aspiring MP Shadrack Mose, who said the region was likely to continue being sidelined from the county management if the two candidates failed to agree and front one candidate.
“I understand that there is democracy but dialogue also is part of that democracy. Our brothers ought to allow dialogue so that we boost our chances of bringing the gubernatorial seat to Kitutu Masaba,” he added.
Another aspirant, Victor Ogeto also pleaded with Nyambati and Mochama to ‘swallow’ their pride for the sake of Masaba people.
“Kitutu Masaba has been sidelined from matters development from the county government. We have strong candidates and we only need one to represent us in the ballot. Nyambati and Mochama should swallow their pride and allow dialogue take center stage,” he added.
In the current leadership, only Women Representative Alice Chae comes from the region, with Governor John Nyagarama and Senator Okong’o Mong’are coming from West Mugirango constituency, Deputy Governor Amos Nyaribo (North Mugirango) and Speaker of the assembly Joash Nyamoko coming from North Mugirango.
