Internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Gusii region led by their chairman Alfred Akama have decried lack of compensation by the government, eight years later since the 2007/2008 post poll violence.
According to Akama a time has come when the name IDPs or ‘wakimbizi’ should be forgotten and all those who were displaced during the skirmishes compensated to start a new life.
Speaking to journalist on Thursday at Marani sub county, Akama accused the government of neglecting Gusii IDPs yet others had been resettled.
“We have been IDPs for 8 years without compensation, the government should compensate us like they did to other IDPs in other regions ,” he said.
More than 1,100 people were killed and thousands others displaced after the 2007 general election results were announced.
