A section of Gusii elders from Nyamira County have called upon politicians from both Nyamira and Kisii to unite and have one common party so that they can have a better bargaining power from the region.
Addressing the press in Kebirigo on Wedneday, Nyamira elders Association Secretary general Ongaki Achoki said that currently the region is lagging behind in terms of development simply because the leaders are not united for a common goal.
“The two counties have been lagging behind politically because they do not have a party of their own to use as a negotiating tool for powerful positions in government,” he added
Achoki added that the regional politicians should be fed up with supporting parties from other communities and end up frustrated when positions are being shared at the national level.
“There is need for our leaders to have one party and try their best to publicise in the two counties and in the national level so that the residents can vie for elective positions on the party’s ticket,” he added.
The elders also called upon elective leaders to deliver their promises before the next general election as those who has delivered will have a chance to win an election.
