The farmers had dismissed the weather advisories that suggested that the farmers harvest their produce early in order to curb harvest losses which might be caused by the heavy rains.

Speaking in Njoro on Tuesday, Mr. James Muhoro a farmer who had planted maize on a ten hectare piece of land pointed out that he had already harvested five hectares of the produce and spared the rest since he thought that the EL nino rains talk was just a hoax.

"I realised that the El nino rains predictions could be true following the heavy rainfall which began at night and continued throughout the night," said Muhoro.

Another maize farmer, Daniel Rutu admitted that he harvested his maize earlier due to the fear of the effects of the heavy rains and that he is glad he did.
