Many couples have incredible joy when they get an additional member to the family.

For some, the new born baby is welcomed with a party or just a prayer.

This is not the case for the faithful of Msalaba Israeli Church in Kibera.

To these faithful, a mother is welcomed to the church after birth whereby she brings the child to be celebrated.

The occasion does not take part in church but on the roadside where the new born is thrown into the air to “meet with the angels”.

The ‘angels’ too celebrate by sending the baby back to the ground - and not according to the force of gravity.

However, to these faithful, the ‘angels’ bring the child back to the ground.

According to Pastor Richard Lutomia, the baby is not allowed to fall on the ground since he/she is special.

“We throw the baby in the air since we want it to meet with the angels. They are happy and they sent the baby back to us. Different people throw the baby. We do not have a special person performing the duty,” said the pastor on Sunday.

The mother of the new born is later pampered with presents and gifts and she is subjected to cooking food for the members.
