Kikuyu Member of Parliament (MP) Kimani Ichungwa has dismissed claims made by Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leader Raila Odinga that the Jubilee government is plotting to rig the 2017 general elections.

Speaking to journalists at Kikuyu Town on Wednesday, Ichungwa termed Raila’s allegations as false adding that they are meant to create panic among Kenyans.

The MP said that Odinga has sensed defeat in the run up to the 2017 general elections and is looking for excuses.

“It is unfortunate for Raila Odinga and his camp to claim that the government plans to rig the 2017 general elections,” said the MP.

Ichungwa noted that the opposition is afraid and thus has resulted to propaganda.

The MP asked Odinga to prove his allegations adding that such careless statements could result to disharmony among Kenyans.

“We know the opposition is developing cold feet as we approach 2017 and are looking for excuses because they know they will be defeated once again,” he said.

On Monday, Odinga alleged that the Jubilee government was planning to rig the election.

The Cord leader further raised concerns over the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), claiming that it was not neutral.

He called for appointment of other commissioners to oversee the 2017 elections.

Odinga also accused the government of failing to implement key pledges it made to Kenyans in 2013.

He cited the laptop project which he said the Jubilee government has failed to implement.

Several leaders including the National Assembly Majority leader who is also the Garissa Township MP Aden Duale lashed at the Cord leader.

Speaking during an interview on K24 on Wednesday, Duale said that the allegations by Cord are meant to cause anxiety among Kenyans ahead of the 2017 polls.
