Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa has faulted his colleagues for the benchmarking catering trips to Netherlands, India and Ethiopia saying it’s a waste of public funds.
Ichung'wa who spoke Friday in his Kikuyu office said such topics in Parliament reflect how leaders care so much about themselves and not the people who elected them.
He said there were many issues that need to be addressed that are more important to the people than matters of the stomach.
Ichung'wa said members expressing concerns about the meals they eat will not help poor Kenyans who need urgency on issues affecting them.
He said Kenyans should note leaders who are pushing for such benefits to themselves and not to vote them back.
"We have had issues with our economy and instead of us being the leaders to help in regaining our economy; we are busy discussing issues that are not even of concern. In fact, members discussing about foreign cooking trips. That's a total joke and its even ashaming to our country as leaders," said Ichung'wa.
He also gave an example of Tanzania where foreign trips have been cancelled to avoid waste of public funds.
He said such money being used was painful for Kenyans who pay taxes as they see it being used on issues that do not even touch on them.
Ichung'wa said in a bid to save our economy, leaders should cut off such expenditures and instead focus on matters that affect Kenyans on a daily basis.
