Kikuyu Member of Parliament (MP) Kimani Ichung'wa has asked needy students who scored good marks in the 2015 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) to apply for bursary funds.
Addressing the members of public at Kikuyu town on Tuesday, the MP encouraged bright students to fill forms early so that they can be considered for bursaries.
The MP noted that through bursaries, needy but bright students will be able to advance their education.
Ichungwa stated that needy students will be funded under the the Kikuyu Constituency Education Foundation which he started two years ago.
“Parents and guardians with needy but bright students who scored high marks in the recently released 2015 KCPE should seek bursaries for them so that they can continue with their studies,” said Ichung'wa.
He also siad that the needy students will be awarded bursaries through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
He asked the Kiambu government to put in place measures that will boost education in the county.
The MP further noted that the county has one of the best schools in the country and that stakeholders must come up with ways of boosting student performance in national examinations.
In the last year KCPE results, Kiambu was among the counties that performed well. The county also did not register any cases of irregularities according to the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).
