Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa has urged women to create employment for the youth through their group projects.

The legislator also urged women groups to create a platform for youth groups to get business loans to enable them venture into entrepreneurship.

Speaking at the Kikuyu CDF grounds on Monday where he meet over 50 women groups from the area, Ichung’wa said women groups have in the recent years had different projects that could be good employment sources for the youth.

He said that projects such as farming and construction should employ the youth to do manual jobs to sustain them.

Ichung’wa also highlighted on the issue of women groups issuing loans to youths, stating that it was a brilliant move by some women saccos since not all of them benefit from Uwezo Fund loans.

"When women groups start issuing loans to our youth, they will have a platform to practise business and this will have curbed idleness and unemployment among the young people who easily get into drug abuse and criminal activities due to lack of jobs," said Ichung’wa.

He urged the youth to emulate women groups and learn from them so that they can also be productive when forming groups.

He applauded women for their endless efforts in the fight against different vices in the community including illicit brew, prostitution, early marriages and drug abuse.
