Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leaders have laid claims that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) worked with Jubilee leaders in Malindi and Kericho by-elections to frustrate their rivals.

They accused IEBC of incompetence and "being partisan government agents" in the by-elections.

They said the electoral body was determined to give Jubilee the Kericho Senate seat.

“In the Malindi and Kericho by-elections, the Jubilee administration worked hand in hand with the IEBC to frustrate the Opposition and Kanu and force Jubilee candidates on a population unwilling to accept them.

"We congratulate Kanu for a battle well fought in Kericho against monumental odds mounted by a partisan and incompetent IEBC and equally partisan government agents that were determined to give Jubilee the seat,” Cord said in a statement.

They said Kanu made a strong statement about the feelings of the people of the South Rift region

Cord also condemned the removal of Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho's security detail a day after the Malindi parliamentary by-election.

The leaders termed the move as an act of blackmail, intimidation and revenge following Jubilee coalition loss in the by-election to Cord.

“We note with deep concern that the mischief that Jubilee intended in the Coast continues. This morning, the acting Mombasa OCPD Patrick Njoroge went to the offices of Governor Ali Hassan Joho and ordered the governor’s security detail to report back to base. In the spirit of revenge for which it is known for, Jubilee has withdrawn governor Joho’s security,” Cord said.

The leaders said they will hold Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery and Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa responsible for Joho’s security.

They claimed Marwa was Jubilee administration's point man at the Coast.

They said that Joho must get his security back without further delay.

The opposition coalition further alleged plans to rig 2017 general election by Jubilee coalition, saying that they will not accept manipulated results.

“Jubilee is poised to lose the 2017 elections. Its sole plan for retention of power is clearly the use of force, bribery and the support from and manipulation of IEBC.

Cord will not accept rigged elections in 2017, neither shall it provide room for rigging.”
