Residents of Pipeline estate in Nakuru have asked the police to intensify night patrols in the area during the festive season following increased cases of break-ins in the area.

The residents claimed that robbers are now using acid to melt the padlocks before gaining access to the houses.

In an interview on Thursday, they said they have been forced to cancel their Christmas travel plans due to the high levels of insecurity in the area

“I would rather stay indoors than come back home to find my whole house swept clean,” Samuel Mwangi said.

They claim that the heavily armed robbers often drugged them before they break in.

Police have been blamed of laxity over the issue.

“Residents know them but when they approach the police, the issue is not taken seriously,” Peninah Wanjira said.

Peter Njoroge, another resident, echoed Wanjira's sentiments.

“They arrested over 32 suspected thieves and yet no one has been brought to book or charged with theft,” Njoroge said.
