An Indian national was on Monday charged before a Kisumu law court for allegedly engaging in employment contrary to conditions attached to his visa.
Vimar Rankar also faced a second count of allegedly conducting business without a work permit from the immigration department when he appeared before Kisumu Principal Magistrate Thomas Obutu.
He denied both charges which are claimed to have been committed on June 25, in Migori town
Rankar is said to have been issued with a visitors pass at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on May 24 when he arrived in the country.
The court heard that conditions attached to his Visa, only allowed him to visit different parts of the country but not engage in any income generating activity.
He is said to have proceeded to Migori town where he was hosted by a friend who offered him employment at a local hotel in the town.
The case had been postponed from Wednesday last week due to lack of a translator as the two accused persons do not understand both English and Swahili.
Obutu ordered the first accused person to get his papers in order as he awaits trial.
“In the meantime, I order Rankar to visit the immigration department, and obtain the necessary documents allowing him to stay in the country. The case might take long and we can’t resume the hearing when you don’t have the papers considering that you are out on bail,” said Obutu.
He was released on a cash bail of Sh20, 000 with a surety of a similar amount.
