Farmers from Gesima ward have urged the county government of Nyamira to introduce new technologies of doing farming to boost agriculture sector in the area.
According to the farmers, the county should introduce green house to farmers and sensitise them on how to improve their produce using the technology.
Led by Florence Machoka, a vegetable farmer, they said that due to the heavy rains their vegetables have been destroyed and they are now counting losses.
They said that they want the county's Ministry of Agriculture to have measures in place to curb crop losses and provide green houses to farmers.
“We will harvest a lot if the county can help us with the new technology of doing farming, we urge the Ministry of Agriculture to copy what other counties have done in agriculture, more so the neighboring Kisii County which introduced green house farming one year ago,” she said.
Edward Moseti, a potato farmer, said that the economy of any county depends on agriculture sector and he urged the county to invest in agriculture sector for prosperity.
“Let us invest in agriculture sector so that we can develop by doing what can help the county,” said Moseti.
