The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has revealed in their research findings that 28,922 out of 39,238 subordinate police officers live under inhuman conditions due to lack of houses.

The authority recommended that the police be allowed to rent their own houses and their allowances increased so that they can live under better, favourable conditions.

The report that was released on Monday by the IPOA chairman, Macharia Njeru indicates that 80% of non commissioned AP officers do not have houses.

This report was done based on the research conducted in 147 police premises countrywide. The research was conducted between June and December last year.

Only 10,316 and 1,750 regular and AP police officers respectively live in decent houses. The situation is even likely to worsen since around 10,000 new police officers are graduating this month something that will worsen the police housing crisis.
