A campaign to sensitise Juja sub county residents on the importance of family planning and usage of contraceptives will be launched soon, the area medical officer Ms. Margret Mwania has said.

The medical officer observed that contraceptive usage is very low in the area. She indicated that only 40 per cent of the residents in the sub county use contraceptives.

“We want to educate residents on the need and importance of family planning and we will be targeting over 40,000 women and men in the first phase,” she said.

The Juja sub county medical officer said that family planning is necessary and that its adoption will help curb rising poverty levels in the area. She asked residents to shun or ignore myths related with family planning and asked them to get information from experts.

On another note, the medical officer cautioned school students who are on holiday against engaging in pre-marital sex as it could easily result in unwanted pregnancies and the contraction of dangerous diseases.

“We are aware that students are on holiday and most of them might be tempted to engage in sexual activities which could easily result in unwanted pregnancies and the contraction of diseases,” she said.

She further added that parents should keenly monitor the activities and movements of their teenagers and advise where necessary.
