Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has asked youth in the county to shun drug abuse and instead support his development agenda.
Speaking when he issued the third bunch of Uwezo and Biashara Fund cheques to youths, women and persons living with disabilities at the Kiambu County headquarters on Tuesday, Kabogo said that drug abuse will only ruin the lives of young people.
He stated that alcohol abuse was still rampant among the youth in some parts of the county.
“Young people should completely shun drug and substance abuse and instead work with my government on various development projects that are being started across the county,” he said.
Kabogo said drug abuse remains a major challenge facing young people in the county, adding that his government has taken up steps to fight the menace among the youth.
He said that Youth Affairs Department has started programmess aimed at empowering young people and sensitising them on the effects of drugs.
On the same note, Kabogo asked law enforcers across the county to deal with brewers and sellers of illegal alcohol.
The governor said that he has received information that some scrupulous people may have gone back to brewing illicit brew and selling second generation drinks.
“We should not allow people who are money oriented to ruin the lives of young people through illicit brew and illegal alcoholic drinks,” he said.
The Kiambu governor said that the future of the county will be realised if illicit brew, unemployment and drug abuse is contained.
Governor Kabogo said his government had initiated rehabilitation and empowerment programmes aimed at helping reformed drug addicts.
