Residents of Kalama sub county led by their former counsellor Mr. Paul Nyanzi on Monday held a public meeting and invited the Kalama division administrators including the area Member of County Assembly honourable John Sila to discuss on the shift of headquarters of the sub county from Kyangala urban center to Muumandu market.
The residents complained about the unofficial shift which inconvenienced effectiveness of the administration since Kalama acts as the capital of the sub county and not Muumandu which is in the far East of the sub-national unit hence making it difficult for some residents to access the offices services easily.
Speaking at the meeting, Nyanzi said that he had served as the area counsellor for many years and agreed that it was easy and more effective to operate from Kyangala urban center because it is geographically centrally located making it easily accessible.
"The offices are currently in bad condition which are not fit to operate from and are surrounded by poor roads which make them difficult to access especially during the rainy seasons and that accelerated the shift," explained Mr. Nyanzi.
He however said that the county government should have prioritised developing Kyangala headquarters. He said that the county government had already tarmacked most of the other sub county headquarters including Yatta, Kangundo and Mwala among others and therefore regarded the Kyangala case as neglect by the Machakos county government.
The people have therefore called upon the county government to act fast to relocate the headquarters back to its original location.
