Kiambu county government will before July 2015 erect a fire station department in Kamwangi that is expected to conform to internationally accepted standards including provision of a water tank, and a borehole for water availability.

Nancy Mwangi, the sub county public affairs director disclosed that the county had set aside enough funds for purchasing land for the project and also for purchasing three water trucks. She revealed that a water tank would also be located at the premise.

Speaking to the press from her office in Kamwangi on Tuesday, the director cited intensive and ongoing training for the fire fighters in the area, planned equipping of the department with fire proof gear and a 24 hour alert system as some of the measures prescribed to manage regular fire outbreaks in Gatundu North.

She observed that public attitude to fire disasters in the area was wanting saying that the incidents were not a county government affair but a collective responsibility.

Mwangi further noted that according to the law, the county governments had no obligation to compensate disaster victims.
