Meat consumers in Kamwangi have been urged to only consume meat that has been examined by health officers to ensure health safety of Kiambu residents as they celebrate especially during this Christmas season.
Speaking from his office in Kamwangi on Tuesday, Kennedy Gathua, the Gatundu North sub county animal health officer noted that during Christmas season, many meat consumers tend to ignore the aspect of meat examination by health officers due to the high demand of the commodity.
"Many people slaughter cows and sheep at their homes to celebrate with their families and friends. Most of these people ignore to call health officers to cross examine the suitability of the slaughtered meat. This should not apply this Christmas," he said.
He warned that unchecked meat can lead to a whole family health crisis if they consume meat that is infected with diseases. He noted that families should only pay for the transport of health officers they call upon because government health officers have salaries.
"Parents should not fear to call health doctors to cross examine their meat. You will only be required to cater for the transport cost of the health officer and the rest will be catered for by the government," he said.
