Residents in Kangundo sub county on Monday morning were urged to make sure that they present their children who are 5 years old and below for vaccination against polio in the period between Saturday of 5th December and 12th December within which there will be a mobile clinic service bringing the vaccination services closer to the people. This massage was given by a senior doctor in Kangundo, Dr. Robert Kilonzo.
Speaking at a press conference in Kangundo town health headquarters, Dr. Kilonzo warned residents against superstitious beliefs which prevent them from presenting their children for vaccinations.
"Polio is incurable but can be prevented by vaccination and I therefore urge each and every parent with a child who is 5 years and below to make sure that they are vaccinated so as to prevent them from suffering from this disease which can result to disabilities in the future,'' explained Kilonzo.
The doctor said that the vaccine has so far been given to almost 5, 000 children; the exercise is targeting about 16, 000 children by Saturday evening. Kilonzo said that only the parents can assist the health officers to achieve the targeted number if they do not ignore the call for presenting their children for the important exercise.
He also asked the parents who are already aware of the ongoing polio vaccination services delivery to inform fellow parents who are not aware so that their children can also benefit from the health services.
