Kangundo Deputy County Commissioner Samuel Njora has warned youth in the area against harvesting sand along roads.
Speaking in Tala Town on Wednesday, the deputy commissioner said most of the cases have been reported in Syanthi and Kathaana areas, both located in Kangundo Sub-County.
Njora said harvesting of sand along roads was damaging the roads.
He said most of the roads now have potholes which flood during the rainy season, thus paralysing transport in the area as the roads become impassible.
"It has come to my attention that there is a group of youth harvesting sand along our roads. They need to stop the habit because they are damaging our roads,” said Njora.
The deputy commissioner said action will be taken against anyone found harvesting sand along roads.
