Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Tong’i has challenged Kisii County residents to be more inquisitive and demand accountability from their elected leaders.

He said Kenyans should keep both national and county government leaders on their toes on how tax payers' money is spent.

“All Kenyans pay taxes and it is your duty to demand better services and representation from the leaders,” Tong'i said.

He said Kenyans have the mandate to ask how their money is used and to whose benefits.

“Things can’t just work if you keep complaining and not bothering to ask about steps taken to address your problems,” he said.

He said that devolution was meant to bring better services closer to people as stipulated in the constitution and not to promote corruption.

“We believed that devolved units would improve and uplift the livelihood of our people, not just for a few people to enjoy,” he noted.

He called on Kisii governor James Ongwae and MCAs to spearhead development in all wards without bias and advance the benefits of devolution.

He also called on the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to fight graft, which he said was undermining development at the counties.

Tong’i was speaking on Friday while inspecting various development projects being implemented through Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in his constituency.
