Kakamega senator Bonny Khalwale lost his seat as the chair of the senate’s public accounts and investments committee on Wednesday morning.
Khalwale was defeated by Nyamira County senator, Kennedy Okong’o who garnered six votes against Khalwales three.
The deputy chair who is also the Mombasa senator, Hassan Omar, was also affected as his position was taken by West Pokot Senator, John Lonyangapuo.
Khalwale acknowledged the defeat and said he was ready to work with the new chair. He spoke this after the announcement of the winning senator at the parliament building.
‘‘I will support the new chair,’’ said Khalwale.
The exercise of choosing new leaders is normally done at the opening of parliament. These senators are very important since their work is to audit how the money given to counties is spent. The commission also checks how the counties invested the money allocated to them.
