Two days after five women groups from Kiamaina in Bahati received greenhouses courtesy of National Irrigation Board (NIB), more groups have asked the government to donate more greenhouses.
Martha Karue, a resident of the area Wednesday said that there are 11 registered women groups in the area and they would want to get a greenhouse to expand their agricultural projects.
She said that it was a good show from area MP Kimani Ngunjiri to have NIB donate the greenhouses but groups that did not receive them should be helped to acquire them.
“What our MP did was very noble because he brought NIB here so that we can have greenhouses but there are 11 women groups here and we feel that those who did not get them should have them for expansion of our projects and for empowerment purposes,” she said.
Stella Wanjiru is a member of a women groups that currently is piloting growing of capsicum and she said that if they had a greenhouse, it would have been much easier for their project to succeed.
“We want to start growing capsicum and other things for sale and then we share out the profit but out there conditions are harsh. If we got a greenhouse, it would have been much easier for us to go full scale with the venture,” said Wanjiru.
Area MP Kimani Ngunjiri responded to the pleas from the women by promising them that he will work towards ensuring that each group gets a greenhouse.
