Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has asked officials entitled to official vehicles in the county to move closer to their areas of jurisdiction to avoid wastage of fuel.
Speaking at Ndumberi after having a meeting with Kiambu Sub County officials, Kabogo said that most of these officials entitled to county vehicles live outside the county which increases the fuel expense which is wastage of public funds.
He said that millions of taxpayers’ money is being wasted on fuel which can be used for other developments in the region.
Kabogo also noted that the habit of travelling long distances was also hampering performance which is a great concern to the county government.
He said that these jobs are not only for salaries but for service delivery to the people of Kiambu.
“Legal action will be taken against officials who misuse the vehicles and also public property because it’s a punishable crime by law,” said Kabogo.
He said that some officials not only travel long distances but that they also misuse these vehicles for their personal gains.
Kabogo noted that an official in Thika was relieved of his duties following his habit of using the vehicle for his family vacations and even hiring it to people to get money out of it.
He described that as greed for money and stated that any official that will be found misusing these properties will lose their jobs and also face legal actions.
“The people of Kiambu want to see results and if these officials that are expected to deliver are sleeping on their jobs and misusing resources then we have to eliminate them and give other people that can deliver these opportunities,” he said.
