Kiambu woman representative Anne Nyokabi has urged women to put more effort in fighting female genital mutilation.
Speaking at a public baraza at the Kiambu chief's camp on Wednesday, Nyokabi said the fight against FGM in Kiambu would succeed if women stand strong and say no to it.
She said some women were deeply involved in all cases of the outlawed female cut reported in the region.
She revealed that some women were quiet whenever their husbands forced their daughters to undergo the cut instead of standing strong and saying no.
The woman representative revealed that FGM cases were mostly reported in the grassroots of the county.
She said it was time for women to join hands and fight this menace.
Nyokabi said the fight should start with those who conduct the ritual to be arrested.
She said most of the residents knew where they operated and they can be identified and arrested.
She said the second step would be to stand strong as one and say NO to female genital mutilation.
"Some communities keep dwelling on traditions that we are not going to allow. FGM is not allowed and we should stand together in solidarity and say NO to it because some areas in our region are still practising it," said Nyokabi.
She said the campaign against FGM would be taken to every part of the county to ensure women stand in solidarity and stop the evil act against girls.
She said these acts have caused some girls to drop out of school by running away from their homes.
Nyokabi called on women to fight for the girl because most of them ended up getting married at tender ages after undergoing the act.
She urged women to report of any family or person undertaking their daughters in this act.
