Kibera market traders at DC market have decried the shortage of customers buying cabbage from them.
The traders say this is making them incur huge losses as cabbage spends many days in stores and later gets spoiled. According to them, they lose customers since the location of selling is far away from where customers pass.
“Customers do not get access to the interior of the market. In the last 2 months, customers have kept off this area and we have not been able to sell cabbage,’’ said Milda Cheruyot, a trader.
“I am making losses as many of my cabbage stock gets spoiled in the store. Customers have opted to buy sukuma wiki and other vegetables,’’ said Judith Wafula, another trader.
Jacinta Oyaro, on the other hand, suggested that it would be good if the market was opened up for easier access by customers. She suggested that this be done by constructing good stalls, constructing walking paths to easy access the whole market.
“I believe that the poor access to the market interior where we are selling cabbage is the reason why there is a shortage in customers as many of them access sukuma wiki and other vegetables easily,’’ Ms Oyaro said.
