Kibera youths who have reached the age of 18 years have been urged to apply for their national identity card on Wednesday at Lindi Ward next to Lindi Mosque.
The area MP, Ken Okoth, called on the youths to come out in large numbers to pick the identity cards for their own benefit.
Identity cards are very important to any Kenyan because it gives one an identity. The ID will also help them in future, for example, in making their own decisions during voting. It also helps boost the security of the country.
''I want to apply for the identity card because I will soon join university and they will need my ID for registration. I can also use it to carry out transactions like M-Pesa. I urge other youths to apply for the identity cards,'' said Allan Omollo, a youth from the area.
Another youth, Victoria Aduvaga, said she has been waiting for this time for a long period of time. She believes the ID will help her get recognition as an adult.
This comes just a few days after elected MP for Keiyo South, Jackson Kiptanui, raised concerns over the alarming number of people living without identity cards. He, however, said that adults without the identity cards should be punished.
