One youth from Kibera had no better way of thanking the area MP, Ken Okoth for awarding him a scholarship for four years than to give him a chicken.
Unlike other people who receive bursaries and never go honour the people who sponsor them, this boy understood the need of saying the simple word ‘thank you’ by putting in all his efforts.
Okoth took on his official Facebook page to break the news and gie gratitude. He went ahead to tell his fans not to wait for the chicken meat as he was not planning to slaughter it anytime soon.
This challenged other beneficiaries of Kibera bursaries to thank the MP on social media. Carol Tunne, however, said the gift was special as no one could have given the MP such a gift.
‘‘I sincerely salute your effort in education,’’ said another beneficiary, Willice Kouma.
Okoth has been in the front line in the fight for education for slum children. He launched his campaign Elimu Kwanza, which has been well received by both parents and teachers in the slum.
