Kibera kiosks owners have been cautioned and urged to be keen with regards to connection of electricity and wiring especially during this rainy season in order to avoid fire break outs.

This is after it has been discovered that some kiosk owners in the area have connected electricity wires illegally which may lead to fire accidents.

This follows the recent incident that occurred in Kibera where 13 houses were burnt down due to electricity irregularities in wire connection without the relevant authority’s know-how that is, the Kenya Power Company.

During an interview at his kiosk on Wednesday morning, Mr. Tom Bosire, a business man and a kiosk owner in Laini saba village within the Kibera slums said that due to the closeness of the kiosks in the area, everyone should ensure power connection is done as required in order to avoid incidents whereby fire may be caused because of poor connection and use of electricity.

“Many people in this area use power that is not paid for since they connect wires illegally by stealing electricity from neighbours. This may cause residents and business owners to lose their property due to fire outbreaks,” Mr. Tom said.

He has appealed to all business owners in the area to call electricians to help them with their electricity connections to avoid property or even the loss of life.
